Fine tuning my Trailer.

A while ago I posted the old trailer for my movie to several forums. I promptly received loads of really useful advice, tiny little details I?d messed up, and opinions. Some of them were so helpful that I immediately wished I?d shown it to you people before making it public. So that is what I?m doing now with my new trailer.

I?d love to hear your advice, your critique, your opinions, and anything you think I should change before I release it on the site. I plan to upload the high quality one to the website around the 14th, so I need to finalize it by then. This one is low, low quality (35kps) cause I don?t want to bug the guy who does our huge file hosting until it?s done.

So please... bring it on! Everything you say will help me fine tune until it?s perfect!

as a trailer it is flawed... becos it doesnt actually sell the movie...

you show too much for a teaser trailer, where at the same time you dont tell us enough that the images have any lasting effect with it being a normal trailer.

You have a few titles saying there was a murder and stuff at the start but then it stops... where is the selling of the story beyond the first 10 seconds?

Alot of people seem do trailers as it seems part of the whole being a film maker thing... lets make a cool trailer... but i think most people use it as an excuse to show some clips of a longer film.

Use the trailer as an exercise in marketing, sell it to me... make me wanna go spend 30 minutes downloading the full thing...

at the moment the trailer doesnt do this.

Marketing is a skill in itself, go to apple.com and download a bunch of trailers and see what codes and conventions are used.

For me it lasted too long, I think you could do with choosing more carefully what you want your trailer to show, at the moment it does seem like a big collection of clips.

Be more decisive in choosing what you want in it, and cut it down- give us an idea of the story- but at the same time don't give it away.

yeah, thanks both of you!

i was already worried about the story line dissapearing like that. i will try to follow through with more titles. we sort of forgot them when we put it together and then it seemed like it messed up the flow to put them back in. i will make it work though! you have confimred my doubts that it didn't work that way.

You have a really cool shot near the end of the trailer of a guy walking down a dirt road...it feels like the opening shot of the trailer. I could see cutting back to it a couple of tims (the way you used it in the trailer) to build up the suspense of what is about to happen.

I felt that I didn't get to know the characters very well, and there were a couple of shots of characters that I don't see again, yet I can't tell why they are in the trailer.

Narration track is a good idea, and use an older voice for the VO.
